        Pandora's box - bridges and their testing. In 1982, the GDR's 2nd class national prize was awarded to the "Hennigsdorf prestressed concrete steel" collective. Today, the term sends shivers down the spines of drivers, inspectors and experts. The equivalent in the old federal states is called Neptun-Stahl. Following the collapse of the Carola Bridge in Dresden, bridges are now being hastily demolished all over Germany - the effects are particularly noticeable in Magdeburg. The culprit for the traffic chaos everywhere was quickly found: inferior materials from times gone by... But is it really that simple? Were the engineers of the 60s and 70s not up to date? Or do our current problems result more from improper handling of buildings? The fact is that our society is facing major infrastructural challenges. And these can (as always) only be mastered through a profound understanding of the situation in combination with suitable options for condition monitoring. We want to address both topics.
